Suffolk Man Accused Of Choking Person Who Becomes Unconscious Near Theater

A Long Island man was arrested for allegedly putting another person in a chokehold during a fight outside a movie theater causing them to lose consciousness.

The incident took place in Suffolk County around 8:35 p.m., Saturday, April 9 in Southampton.

John Martinolich, age 36, of Hampton Bays, was arrested after being involved in a physical fight with another person in the Hampton Bays Movie theater parking lock in which he place the victim in a headlock causing them to lose consciousness, said Sgt. Herbert Johnson, of the Southampton Police.

After the fight, Martinolich fled from police on foot after being told he was under arrest, Johnson said.

He was caught a short distance away and charged with:

  • Disorderly conduct
  • Strangulation
  • Resisting arrest
